the three gorges dam was to be constructed because the yangtzes river from flooding and killing thousands of farmers as it usually does. it was thought that the cost of the dam would be $25 billion and would displace 2 million people from there houses because the reservoir would flood 13 major cities, but this wasnt the case.

location

the three gorges dam is being built near the three gorges along the yangtzes river. this area is mostly tropical jungle with about 13 major cities and multiple villages along its banks. there is also a large mountain range in this area.

development

the construction of the three gorges dam started in 1999 and was planned to be opened in 2009. as they continued to build the dam the cost started to build up until the estimated price tag was 180 billion dollars, 165 billion more then what was projected.

impact

1.This dam had an impact on people, it forced them to move out of where they were living and move somewhere else. Most of the people had no where else to live other than there.
2.Its impact on the environment cost them their past, all of China's past is being erased. They'll never know anything about it.
3.Its impact on economics has cost them billons of dollars, estimated 180 billion dollars. But it also gives them 20% more of its electricty.
4.The government had to convice the people that were living there that it was a good idea to build this dam, most of them are not so sure.

future

The project has been plagued by corruption spiraling costs, technological problem, human rights violations and resettlement difficulties. These issues will have an affect on the region in the future.
